I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Important Eligibility Information
We’ve received several questions around eligibility for the apprenticeship programmes, so we’d like to clarify a few key points. Due to government funding guidelines, to be considered you must meet the following criteria:
- You must hold full right to work in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship
- Unfortunately, we are unable to consider candidates whose visa expires, needs renewing, or requires switching partway through the programme. The right to work documents shown at interview must run until at least the end of the apprenticeship.
- We cannot consider candidates on student or graduate visas

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
This is due to you not meeting the government requirement of being ordinarily resident in the UK for the 3 years prior to the start of the apprenticeship.
If you’re unsure about your eligibility or have any questions, please contact us at recruitment@cogentskills.com and we’ll be happy to advise.
Already at University?
If you are already at university you may be eligible for an apprenticeship with Pfizer, however if accepted on to the programme you would need to withdraw from your current university course. Apprenticeships are entry level positions that need to deliver substantive new learning. If you are near completing or will have completed a degree in the same subject as the apprenticeship you will be over qualified and cannot be considered.
If you are looking for a placement to form part of your university studies, then you need to look for placement years or graduate schemes directly on Pfizer’s website
