Role Description
The Pharmacy Assistant role is a full-time, on-site position based in Luton. The Pharmacy Assistant will support the pharmacy team by:

- Preparing and labeling prescriptions under appropriate supervision
- Assisting with medication dispensing
- Maintaining accurate patient records
- Managing stock levels
- Organizing inventory
- Checking expiry dates
- Ensuring medicines are stored safely

The role also involves:
- Greeting and assisting patients and carers
- Handling queries in person and by phone
- Providing clear, courteous information within scope of practice
The Pharmacy Assistant will:
- Follow NHS policies
- Adhere to safety and confidentiality standards
- Work collaboratively with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals
Qualifications
- Ability to work safely with prescriptions and medicines, with attention to detail and adherence to pharmacy procedures
- Knowledge of basic pharmacy operations and medication handling or a willingness to learn through structured training
- Skills in inventory management, including stock rotation, ordering, and accurate record-keeping
- Strong customer service skills, with a patient-centered approach and the ability to handle enquiries with care and professionalism
- Professional phone etiquette and clear communication skills for interacting with patients, carers, and clinical staff
- Basic IT skills for using pharmacy systems and maintaining electronic records
- Ability to work effectively in a team, follow clinical and safety guidelines, and manage time and tasks in a busy environment
- Relevant pharmacy assistant training, NVQ or equivalent qualification, or experience in a healthcare or retail pharmacy setting is desirable
