Bank Pharmacy Assistant
Derby Hospital | Pharmacy | Bank | Part Time
Up to £13 per hour depending on experience

Role Overview
To assist the Pharmacy team by providing pharmacy support to deliver an efficient Pharmacy service. All tasks will be carried out under the supervision of a Pharmacist following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Key Responsibilities
As a Bank Pharmacy Assistant you will;
- Monitor stock levels within the Pharmacy department to maintain appropriate stock levels
- Assist with the procurement of pharmaceutical stock for the pharmacy and other departments using appropriate electronic systems
- Receive goods in appropriately checking against purchase orders/delivery notes, dealing with issues/anomalies as they arise and escalating appropriately
- Review invoice queries as appropriate
- Monitor stock levels within the pharmacy department
- Monitor stock levels in designated ward/department areas by carrying out stock top ups
- Assist with supplying stock to other departments
- Participate in pharmacy and departmental stock takes
- Store all pharmaceutical products appropriately maintaining security and correct environmental conditions
- Carry out expiry date checking of pharmaceutical stock in designated areas and record appropriately
- Dispose of medicines in accordance with statutory requirements
- Manage the stock supply of emergency drugs in accordance with local resuscitation policies
- Assemble monthly stock evaluation reports

Dispensary and Patient Services
- Assist in the dispensing of medicines accurately selecting the correct quantity of medicine required and assembling, labelling and processing them in a safe, efficient and timely manner
- Carry out final accuracy check on dispensed items within scope of qualification and experience
- Provide basic advice to customers under the supervision of the Pharmacist, understanding when to refer on appropriately
- Assemble pre-packed or over-labelled batches of medicines for out of hours dispensing
Team Support
- Provide general administrative support to the department
- Clean and restore equipment and work areas, leaving them in a suitable condition for future use
- Maintain appropriate levels of Pharmacy consumable items within the department e.g. cartons, bags, labels etc.
- Identify any problems within work areas, including equipment, pharmacy orders, medicines, prescriptions, signed orders and escalate appropriately
- Assist with storing all documentation within recommendations for the retention of pharmacy records
- Assist with workplace audits as required by the Pharmacy Manager
- Follow the correct procedures and any relevant policies and guidelines at all times including all aspects of the Infection Prevention and Control policy and guidelines.
Essential Requirements
Educational Qualifications
- Good standard of general education, with proven literacy and numeracy.
- Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills / GPhC recognised equivalent qualification or ability to work towards qualification which would be commenced within 3 months of employment and completed within agreed timescale
- 4 GCSEs including English, Maths and a Science or equivalent.

Experience, Knowledge & Expertise
- Some experience within a pharmacy environment or healthcare background
