Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced, motivated and forward-thinking leader to join our Pharmacy senior leadership team as Pharmacy Business Development Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong operational, financial and performance management expertise to play a pivotal role in shaping the commercial future of Pharmacy services at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust.

You will provide strategic and operational leadership across a broad portfolio, including service development, business planning, financial oversight, performance improvement, clinical trials income generation and service continuity, while working closely with the Director of Pharmacy, senior clinical leaders and wider Trust colleagues.

We are seeking a highly capable individual with significant management experience, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to lead change, influence across organisational boundaries and deliver results in a complex NHS environment. Main duties of the job

In this key role you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational management for Pharmacy, ensuring financial balance and management, performance assurance, and cross-Trust collaboration.
  • Hold delegated service responsibility for delivery, expansion and income generation from clinical trials and research and development.
  • Designated operational lead to maintain service continuity, including decision-making authority when senior professional managers are unavailable or on a rota basis.
  • Lead Trust-wide programmes, and drive efficiency, income generation, and cost improvement while upholding governance, contract, and regulatory and financial requirements.
  • The post holder will be a specialist resource to the Pharmacy Department and will have a significant role in supporting our strategic development and commercial opportunities as well as act in an operational capacity supporting the robust delivery of Pharmacy services.
  • The role will help to shape future direction and forge sustainable profitable new business relationships to meet the relevant growth targets.

Reporting directly to the Director of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation, the post-holder will be accountable for providing financial oversight for RUH Pharmacy services, developing and maintaining services both in the Trust and with partner organisations.

  • Be a part of the Trust On Call Management Rota and Divisional bed rota.

Essential criteria

  • MSc degree level or equivalent Management qualification
  • Post-graduate qualification relevant to the post or equivalent
  • Formal project management qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Graduate or post graduate level qualification in management / leadership

Experience

Essential criteria

  • General management experience in an acute NHS Trust
  • Experience of business and service planning, including writing business plans
  • Evidence of effective working with clinicians and the multidisciplinary team
  • Significant experience of budget and staff management
  • Demonstrable experience of Improvement methodology

Desirable criteria

  • Working knowledge of Pharmacy
  • Experience of strategy development

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to independently initiate programmes of work and manage teams to deliver
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor complex contracts /SLAs /Agreements
  • Able to prepare and analyse complex reports and policies e.g. Business Cases
