Pharmacy Support Worker
The Pharmacy Support Worker is responsible for supporting the safe and accurate dispensing of oral cytotoxic medicines, supportive cancer treatments, and outsourced pre-prepared medications using the JAC pharmacy system. The post holder will assist in receiving and checking deliveries of outsourced medicines, ensuring accuracy against delivery documentation and reporting any discrepancies promptly.
Working under the supervision of registered pharmacy professionals and the Accountable Pharmacist, the post holder will adhere to all legal, professional, and departmental requirements, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), COSHH regulations, manual handling requirements, and Trust policies. The role contributes to maintaining high standards of patient care, pharmaceutical services, and professional practice in line with the standards set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Main Duties
- Support the provision of a safe and effective aseptic pharmacy service by processing prescriptions, maintaining accurate documentation, and complying with all relevant legislation, quality standards, and procedures.
- Undertake stock management activities, including receipt, storage, stock checks, stock rotation (FEFO), date checks, and reporting discrepancies.
- Assist in the safe handling, storage, and disposal of medicines, including cytotoxic products.
- Maintain accurate records, support filing and archiving processes, and monitor environmental and equipment parameters to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Participate in environmental monitoring, cleaning schedules, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control activities within the aseptic unit.
- Assist with aseptic preparation activities, including assembly of materials and basic calculations where required.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques, infection prevention requirements, and validated hand hygiene procedures.
- Maintain stock levels, replenish consumables, and support general housekeeping duties.
- Communicate effectively, respond to enquiries, escalate concerns appropriately, and seek guidance from senior staff when required.
- Participate in departmental rotas, mandatory training, performance reviews, and continuing professional development.
- Work flexibly across pharmacy services to support operational needs and continuity of patient care.
