About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery and development of pharmacy services across Northumbria Healthcare. The post supports the safe, efficient and cost-effective supply of medicines, with responsibilities spanning procurement, pharmacy IT systems and business information.

Working closely with pharmacy and wider Trust teams, the post holder will contribute to medicines governance, service improvement and the development of the North East and North Cumbria Formulary, while leading the Pharmacy Procurement Team. The role also provides the opportunity to use and develop specialist technical, analytical and leadership skills, in addition to clinical and operational knowledge, alongside maintaining a practising pharmacy technician role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop pharmacy procurement and homecare services, helping ensure patients have timely access to safe, effective and value-for-money medicines.
  • Use data and technology to improve pharmacy services, managing key pharmacy IT systems and producing meaningful information to support decision-making and service improvement.
  • Lead a small business and administration team, providing direction, support and opportunities for development.
  • Contribute to medicines governance and service development, including the Medicines Homecare Group and the North East and North Cumbria Formulary.
  • Drive improvement and manage risk, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, patient safety and the use of medicines across the Trust.
  • Use your specialist pharmacy technician expertise, providing technical advice and supporting clinical and operational pharmacy services when required.
  • Work collaboratively across the Trust, building effective relationships with pharmacy, clinical, finance, IT and external partners to deliver better medicines services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
