Pharmacy Technician Team Lead North Sector

Based at Gartnavel General Hospital & Vale of Leven Hospital Pharmacy
We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive registered Pharmacy Technician to join the senior management team in the North Sector, where you will contribute to the operational management, planning, coordination, assessment and delivery of pharmacy technical services.
Our pharmacy team are valued members of the wider multidisciplinary teams where we work collaboratively and compassionately with all services and service users to provide integrated, high-quality, person-centred pharmacy care and services to all. This role provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of pharmacy services across the North Sector whilst working within a supportive and forward-thinking team.
The key role of this post will be to develop pharmacy technical services at Gartnavel General Hospital, the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and the Vale of Leven Hospital.
Applicants must be confident to work independently and as part of a team interchangeably. You will have excellent communication, organisational and time management skills used daily to provide leadership and support for our large, friendly pharmacy team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals wanting to develop their skills in leadership and management, as we encourage and support staff development via local and national training programs and appraisals, as well as providing you with opportunities to use your own initiative to promote CPD.
This position will support your personal development and provide you with opportunities to contribute to the development of innovative clinical pharmacy services in line with the pharmacy strategy and vision. You will work with a team that strives to develop hospital pharmacy services using quality improvement methodology to demonstrate service improvement.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. What You Will Do
The post holder will be accountable for supporting delivery against the following service and workforce objectives:
Workforce Management
- Maintain safe staffing levels across GGH and Vale of Leven pharmacy services through effective rota management and workforce planning.
- Achieve and sustain 95% compliance with statutory and mandatory training requirements within the managed team.
- Ensure completion of annual TURAS reviews and PDPs for all direct reports.
- Support reduction in sickness absence rates in line with NHSGGC targets through proactive attendance management and staff wellbeing initiatives.
Operational Performance
- Ensure pharmacy technician and support services are staffed to support continuity of patient care and medicines supply services.
- Minimise unplanned service disruption through proactive workforce management and contingency planning.
- Support delivery of agreed departmental service standards and operational objectives.
Governance and Quality
- Maintain compliance with medicines governance procedures and departmental SOPs.
- Ensure Datix incidents are reported, investigated and actioned within agreed timescales.
- Lead and support local audits and implementation of improvement actions arising from audit findings.
- Monitor and improve compliance with medicines management standards and governance requirements.
Service Improvement
- Deliver agreed quality improvement projects supporting North Sector Pharmacy objectives.
- Contribute to implementation of service transformation initiatives and departmental workplans.
- Support achievement of efficiencies through review and optimisation of pharmacy technician and support staff workflows.
Leadership and Staff Development
- Provide visible day-to-day leadership across GGH and Vale of Leven pharmacy services.
- Support recruitment, induction and retention of pharmacy support staff and technicians.
- Identify development opportunities and succession planning requirements within the pharmacy workforce.
- Foster a positive team culture supporting staff engagement, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
What You Will Bring
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- HNC in pharmacy services or equivalent management qualification.
- Post-registration experience working in pharmacy.
- A broad understanding of a range of pharmacy technical practice.
- Demonstrable leadership and team management skills (this can be as a deputy).
- Good IT skills
- SQA work based assessor qualification is desirable.
