The Role

Philanthropic support creates meaningful opportunities for students and researchers at the University of Bristol. The Philanthropy Officer will work in the Leadership Giving team, responsible for cultivating strong relationships with existing and potential donors to raise funds for University priorities in the £1,000 - £10,000 range, by contacting Bristol alumni and friends with tailored communications (post, phone and digital) and creating inspirational updates and fundraising asks with the help of colleagues.

This role can be considered on a part-time or full-time basis, between 0.6 and 1.0 FTE. Applicants should state their preferred FTE arrangement in their cover letter. Part-time hours will be calculated on a pro rata basis (for example, 0.6 FTE equates to 21 hours per week).

Please note that this role is a fixed-term contract ending on 12th October 2027.

What will you be doing?

You will help with the operational delivery of effective fundraising and stewardship to inspire donations at Leadership Giving level (£1,000-£10,000). This includes:

  • Creating personalised fundraising and engagement communications to inspire our Leadership Giving donors and potential donors
  • Building relationships with individual supporters through tailored emails and conversations
  • Working closely with colleagues in our Regular Giving and Individual Philanthropy teams to support to secure donations and steward donors effectively
  • Collaboration with colleagues across our engagement, events, data, insight, marketing and communications teams
  • Project management of our US Leadership Giving activity
  • Evaluating and analysing Leadership Giving fundraising activity results

  • You have experience working in fundraising or donor relations and have the confidence to make direct philanthropic asks
  • You have excellent organisation skills, you can juggle multiple projects and deadlines, and have a strong attention to detail.

Additional Information

  • Contract type: Fixed-term contract until 12/10/2027. If you are an internal applicant and currently hold a substantive post and would like to consider this opportunity on a secondment basis, this is welcomed. Please ensure you have discussed this with your current line manager before applying.
  • Work pattern: Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week. Though the role can be considered on a part-time basis (minimum 0.6 FTE).
  • Hybrid working arrangement: Team day working on campus is a Wednesday each week, however we are often in the office more often due to events taking place on various days of the week.
  • Grade: H
  • Salary: £35,608 - £39,906 per annum (pro-rated for part time)
  • School/Unit: Global Engagement Division (GED)
