People’s Health Trust Governance Opportunities
People’s Health Trust is a national charity working with local communities across England, Scotland and Wales to stop people dying too young, help people live longer and healthier lives, and make health more equal.
About the Charity
We are entering an important new chapter. Our new five-year strategy, launching in October, will focus on working with communities most affected by poor health to co-design community-led solutions that tackle the causes of poor health, being a trusted source of evidence that shapes policy and practice, and growing our philanthropic and impact partnerships to enable greater reach.
About the Opportunity
We are looking for three people who can bring experience, insight, and constructive challenge to our governance and help us increase our impact.
We are recruiting:
- Philanthropy Trustee – bringing significant philanthropy, major gifts, or major donor expertise to our Board.
- Independent Member, Finance, Audit & Operations Committee – bringing senior finance, audit, risk, or charity accounting experience.
- Independent Member, Programmes, Impact & Influencing Committee – bringing experience of social justice programmes, policy, influencing, research, evaluation, or evidence.
About the Roles
Philanthropy Trustee
This is an opportunity to bring significant philanthropy, major gifts, or major donor expertise to the Board at an important point in the Trust’s development.
You will provide strategic insight and constructive challenge around philanthropy and major donor engagement, help strengthen the Trust’s profile with prospective supporters, and support the executive team to build successful relationships with donors and philanthropic partners. Alongside this specialist contribution, you will share responsibility with fellow Trustees for strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability of People’s Health Trust.

Independent Member – Finance, Audit & Operations Committee
You will bring independent financial scrutiny and challenge to a committee responsible for supporting the Board and executive across finance, audit, risk, and wider organizational operations.
Your primary contribution will include oversight of financial planning and reporting, audit, financial controls, and risk management, with opportunities to contribute to wider discussions covering areas such as income generation, IT, people, and legal matters.
Independent Member – Programmes, Impact & Influencing Committee
This role provides an opportunity to help shape and scrutinize the effectiveness of the Trust’s programmes, evidence, influencing, and impact work. You will contribute strategic insight around areas including programme design and delivery, evaluation and learning, the use of evidence, public policy, influencing, and communications.
We are particularly interested in people with knowledge of programmes addressing injustice, policy, and public affairs, or research, evaluation, and evidence-led decision-making.
Key Responsibilities for all roles
- Provide strategic insight, scrutiny, and constructive challenge.
- Contribute confidently and collaboratively to Board and/or committee discussions.
- Help ensure strong governance, accountability, and sound decision-making.
- Bring your professional knowledge while remaining open to different perspectives.
- Keep the experiences and interests of the communities People’s Health Trust supports at the heart of decisions.
- Act in support of the Trust’s mission, values, and long-term impact.
