About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer (PHP) to join our team in the United Kingdom. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling backend services within a large microservices architecture. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including frontend, mobile, data, and design to develop robust, high-performance products used by millions of users worldwide. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of microservices, backend architecture, and modern development practices. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful projects, influence architectural decisions, and drive improvements in system performance and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in backend development with PHP
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture
  • Familiarity with GraphQL, Golang, Temporal, and Saga orchestration (highly desirable)
  • Experience in fast-paced environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Collaborative mindset

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing scalable backend services
  • Ensuring system robustness and reliability
  • Collaborating with frontend, mobile, and data teams to define technical requirements and translate them into effective solutions
  • Participating in architectural discussions, providing input on system design, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our microservices ecosystem
  • Writing clean, maintainable code and conducting code reviews
  • Ensuring adherence to best practices
  • Monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing optimizations to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Staying updated with emerging technologies and incorporating them into our development processes where appropriate
