📣 PHP / Symfony Contractor — Legacy Platform Upgrade
💰 £400+ per day — Outside IR35

I’m working with a well-established UK technology business looking for an experienced PHP / Symfony Contractor to join an urgent 6-month platform upgrade.
This isn’t a greenfield build, and they’re not looking for a generalist PHP developer.
They specifically need someone who has successfully delivered large-scale upgrades of legacy PHP/Symfony applications before and can come in, understand an established codebase and start contributing quickly.

You’ll be working on a substantial legacy platform, helping modernise the PHP and Symfony stack while navigating the dependencies, technical debt and migration challenges that come with upgrading a mature production system.
Could be a strong fit if you:
- Have strong commercial PHP experience, ideally including PHP 8.2 / 8.3
- Have deep production experience with Symfony
- Have personally delivered major Symfony framework upgrades or migrations
- Are comfortable working within large, established legacy codebases
- Have strong experience with Doctrine
- Understand the challenges around dependencies, backwards compatibility, testing and incremental modernisation
- Can operate independently and deliver from day one in a contract environment
- Ideally have completed multiple previous upgrade or migration contracts
- Experience with Twig and Mockery would also be beneficial.
