Mid-Level PHP Developer (Laravel / CakePHP)
Basingstoke
£40,000 - £55,000 per annum
Hybrid - 1 day onsite per week
Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen with a growing organisation looking for an experienced Mid-Level PHP Developer to join their internal technology team. You’ll play a key role in developing, enhancing, and supporting business-critical CRM applications.
Working within a collaborative Agile Scrum environment, you’ll deliver new functionality, improve existing systems, and contribute to the continued evolution of applications alongside developers, QA engineers, Business Analysts, and DevOps teams.
This is a great opportunity to work across modern and legacy technologies, solve technical challenges, and make a real impact through high-quality software development.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend applications using PHP (Laravel and CakePHP).
- Deliver new features from development through to testing, deployment, and ongoing improvements.
- Enhance existing applications, including supporting and modernising legacy systems.
- Build and maintain APIs, integrations, and backend services.
- Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code following best practices.
- Contribute to code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
- Support system design, technical improvements, and performance optimisation.
- Collaborate within an Agile Scrum team alongside developers, QA, Business Analysts, and DevOps teams.

Skills & Experience
- 3+ years’ commercial experience developing with PHP.
- Strong experience with PHP 7.4 (CakePHP) and PHP 8+ (Laravel/Symfony).
- Experience building backend systems, APIs, and integrations.
- Strong knowledge of MySQL and database optimisation.
- Good working knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS.
- Experience with Git, pull requests, and collaborative development workflows.
- Familiarity with Docker, Linux/WSL, and automated testing practices.
- Understanding of software design principles, clean code standards, and Agile development.
- Exposure to Vue.js/Nuxt, Azure, CI/CD pipelines, messaging technologies, or microservices would be beneficial.
