About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer to join our client's dynamic team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role offers a unique opportunity for a developer with a strong background in PHP and Symfony to take ownership of critical web applications, contribute to modernisation efforts, and support ongoing maintenance and development initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for working on business-critical systems, delivering innovative features, resolving complex technical issues, and enhancing legacy applications to improve performance and security. This hands-on position requires a proactive individual who can quickly grasp existing codebases, collaborate effectively within an Agile environment, and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of professional experience supporting and developing business-critical web applications. Extensive expertise in PHP 8+ and Symfony framework is essential, alongside a solid understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and design patterns. Proficiency in developing and integrating RESTful APIs, with knowledge of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and JWT, is also required. Additionally, candidates should have a good grasp of front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript ES6+, as well as strong SQL skills with experience in relational database design, query optimization, and performance tuning using PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases. Familiarity with Linux, Git, Docker, automated testing, secure coding practices, and OWASP standards is highly desirable. Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or within a team are vital for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain existing web applications and supporting systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle within an Agile team, from planning and design to deployment and support.
- Investigate and resolve production defects across application code, APIs, databases, and infrastructure components.
- Translate complex business requirements into secure, maintainable technical solutions that align with organizational goals.
- Build and integrate RESTful APIs, including implementing authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Modernize legacy applications by refactoring codebases and reducing technical debt to improve maintainability and scalability.
- Write automated unit and integration tests, contribute to code reviews, and uphold best coding practices.
- Enhance application and database performance through optimization and tuning techniques.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation to facilitate ongoing support and knowledge sharing.
- Follow secure coding standards and stay updated on emerging security threats and mitigation strategies.
