About The Role
This is a newly created permanent vacancy for a PHP developer to work with an Ipswich-based software business that is embarking on an exciting period of growth. As part of a small, friendly, and supportive team of developers, you will primarily work on enhancing the company's unique software solutions, which include a cloud-based data hub interfacing with third-party data sources and applications, as well as an integrated suite of mobile applications. Your main responsibilities will involve developing new backend and web application functionalities using technologies such as PHP, Laravel, MySQL, MongoDB, and JavaScript.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to greenfield development projects, helping to shape the future of the company's software offerings. Working predominantly on a remote basis, you will be part of a collaborative environment that values innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven commercial experience in PHP development, demonstrating a strong understanding of web-based platforms and RESTful web services. A solid knowledge of PHP frameworks such as Laravel is essential, along with experience working with relational and NoSQL databases like MySQL and MongoDB. Familiarity with JavaScript and front-end technologies will be beneficial. The candidate should be self-motivated, quick to learn, and comfortable working within an Agile development environment. Knowledge of software development best practices, version control systems, and continuous integration processes will be advantageous.
Relevant academic qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields are preferred but not mandatory if complemented by substantial practical experience. The ability to communicate effectively within a team and to adapt to evolving project requirements is also important.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend functionalities for web applications using PHP and Laravel framework.
- Design, implement, and optimize database schemas in MySQL and MongoDB to support application features.
- Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
- Develop and consume RESTful APIs to enable seamless data exchange with third-party systems.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality software delivery.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and best practices.
- Assist in the deployment and maintenance of cloud-based applications and services.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to incorporate innovative solutions.
