About The Opportunity
We're looking for PHP developers of medium and senior experience to join our technical team onsite in Bristol, with salary dependent on experience.
As a developer at Shiptheory, you’ll work across our technology stack, including our core PHP/Linux/Apache application, MySQL databases, mission-critical Python messaging systems, and cloud infrastructure.

Your work will range from fixing bugs and building new features to designing scalable systems, improving infrastructure and deployment pipelines, and working with the wider team to continuously improve the Shiptheory platform.
Depending on your experience, you may also review code, mentor other developers, contribute to technical decision-making, and help shape our engineering practices and architecture.
What You’ll Need
You will need to be passionate about building PHP based web applications with a focus on APIs with a minimum of 3 years developing commercial-grade PHP and will have worked on large, high volume transactional systems.
You must be able to write Python at a respectable level as well as HTML, CSS and JavaScript. You will also need to be able to adapt quickly, and open to learning new languages.
- Experience with CakePHP (or another MVC based framework).
- Knowledge of SOAP, GraphQL, RESTful APIs.
- An understanding of relational database design, normalization and indexing.
- An understanding of e-commerce or experience working within e-commerce or shipping would be a valuable asset but is not essential.
- While you don’t need to be a world-class Dev-Ops, an intermediate understanding of cloud computing techniques and best-practises is required.
- Enthusiasm for developer efficiency and smooth CI/CD pipelines is a given as a senior; the right solution wins over ego everytime.
