About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled PHP Web Developer to join our dynamic technical team in Chichester, West Sussex. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a highly respected digital agency that specializes in creating bespoke websites, eCommerce platforms, and business systems for clients across diverse sectors. As part of our team, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining innovative web applications that drive business success for our clients. This position is ideal for a developer who enjoys tackling complex problems, taking ownership of projects, and collaborating directly with clients to deliver impactful solutions. The role is based in Chichester with hybrid working options available, providing flexibility and work-life balance.
Qualifications
- Proven commercial experience with modern, object-oriented PHP 8.
- Experience working with PHP frameworks or large-scale PHP applications.
- Strong passion for writing clean, maintainable, and reusable code.
- Experience with code quality tools such as PHPUnit, static analysis, or automated testing processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong communication skills with confidence working directly with clients and colleagues.
- A track record of successfully delivering projects, accurately estimating timelines, and identifying risks early.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain bespoke web applications and business systems tailored to client needs.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues and clients to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Write clean, efficient, and reusable code following best practices and industry standards.
- Implement and utilize code quality tools, including automated testing frameworks like PHPUnit, to ensure software reliability.
- Investigate and troubleshoot technical issues promptly, providing effective resolutions.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and incorporate innovative techniques into projects.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment without traditional project management layers.
Desirable Skills
Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate experience in at least two of the following areas:
- AI-assisted and agentic software development.
- Front-end development using HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript.
- Ecommerce platforms and payment gateway integrations.
- PCI compliance and web security best practices.
- Web performance analysis and optimization techniques.
- Advanced SQL skills and database design, particularly with MariaDB.
- AWS infrastructure and cloud services management.
- DevOps practices and systems administration.
- Experience with CloudFlare, Debian, Puppet, and Terraform.
- Implementation of analytics tools, including Google Tag Manager and server-side tracking.
- Knowledge of consent management and privacy-focused measurement solutions.
