About The Role
We are seeking a skilled PHP Web Developer to join our client's growing technical team based in Chichester, West Sussex. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a developer passionate about creating bespoke web applications, ecommerce platforms, and business systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of object-oriented PHP, modern frameworks, and front-end technologies, enabling them to design, develop, and maintain high-quality solutions tailored to client needs. Working in a collaborative environment, the developer will directly engage with clients and internal teams to understand project requirements, troubleshoot technical issues, and deliver impactful results. This position provides hybrid working options, allowing flexibility in balancing on-site and remote work, and offers a competitive salary package complemented by various benefits.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should demonstrate a solid background in PHP development, particularly with modern PHP versions (PHP 8 or later). Experience working with PHP frameworks or large-scale applications is essential, alongside a passion for writing clean, maintainable, and reusable code. Familiarity with code quality tools such as PHPUnit, static analysis, and automated testing processes is highly desirable. Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical challenges efficiently. Responsibilities
- Designing, developing, and maintaining bespoke web applications and business systems that meet client specifications.
- Collaborating closely with clients and internal teams to gather requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and ensure timely delivery.
- Writing high-quality code, implementing best practices, and conducting thorough testing to ensure robustness and performance.
- Maintaining and improving existing systems, troubleshooting bugs, and optimizing application performance.
- Staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrating strong self-management skills, prioritizing effectively, and communicating progress proactively.
Desirable Skills
Candidates with experience in at least two of the following areas will have an advantage:
- AI-assisted and agentic software development
- Front-end development using HTML, CSS/SASS, and JavaScript
- Ecommerce platforms and payment gateway integrations
- PCI compliance standards
- Web performance analysis and optimization
- Advanced SQL skills and database design, particularly with MariaDB
- AWS infrastructure and cloud services
- DevOps practices and systems administration
- Experience with CloudFlare, Debian, Puppet, and Terraform
- Implementation of analytics tools, including Google Tag Manager and server-side tracking
- Consent management and privacy-focused measurement solutions
