The Thames Valley Forensic Mental Health Service is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Physical Fitness Practitioner to join its Medium Secure Service in Oxford. The successful candidate would be based on Oxford Clinic, a two ward unit for male patients. The two wards are Kennet, an acute ward with 15 beds, and Glyme, a rehabilitation ward with 17 beds. The role will involve working with individuals detained under the Mental Health Act.

An informal discussion about the opportunity, or a visit, is strongly encouraged. To be successful in this role you should have a level 2 fitness instructor qualification including CIMSPA/REPS.

This post attracts RSU allowance of £1,466 per year on top of the basic salary.

As the Physical Fitness Practitioner, you will be responsible for setting up and running the gym and sports programmes within the unit and developing sports and leisure links within the community. You will work with individual patients to support them in achieving their goals in relation to health and fitness and understanding of healthy living, including smoking cessation advice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
