Overview of the Role
To perform the role of Consultant - Design Engineer for the PTS Physical Infrastructure Practice:
- Working as part of a multi-skilled team, provide structured cabling and telecoms design services to PTS’ clients
- Convert client requirements from concept design to a fully functional solution and manage the tendering process and quality assurance of the installation
- Liaise with other consultancies and internal PTS teams to perfect a coordinated design
- Always represent PTS in a professional manner and exercise good communication skills with the Client, other design bodies and contractors
Description of Duties
- Prepare and issue RIBA stage 2, stage 3 and stage 4 documentation including: plans; elevations, routing drawings and schedules to exacting standards using PTS’ in-house formats
- Attend Client and design team meetings to provide advice on PI design items and ensure relevant standards are met. Ensure actions arising are tracked and resolved in a timely manner
- Liaise with architectural, mechanical, electrical, security, AV etc. to produce coordinate designs
- Carry out due diligence on equipment room placement and cable routing
- Prepare equipment room electrical and heat loading reports
- Prepare cost estimations using PTS’ in-house toolsets
- Prepare CDM designers risk assessments
- Attend installation team meetings, respond to requests for information and approval of technical submittals and drawings
- Carry out Equipment Room ready inspections
- Carry out witness testing of installations on the client’s behalf
- Provide weekly project status updates
- Ensure PTS’ adherence to agreed scope of works raising and tracking change requests
- Adopt PTS’ ISO 9001 quality procedures and ensure they are adhered to
- Ensure that technical skills are kept up to-date and continually improved
- Ensure proper time recording

Relevant Necessary Experience
Candidates should have experience in a technical SCS environment including design; estimation; installation and quality assurance
- Understand the complexities of structured cabling installations in construction environments
- Previous experience in data centre SCS design and campus distribution is an advantage

The role will suit someone who can meet multiple deadlines, as well as prioritise and thrive under pressure. Ideally candidates will have experience in the construction or IT industry. The successful candidate should have the ability to liaise with and confidently influence stakeholders and the ability to work across several disciplines.
