Pro Ref is entering a new and exciting era as we strive to continue enhancing refereeing standards. Pro Ref manage and develop the 600 Match Officials operating in the elite game in England and are building a broader, highly-skilled workforce to provide the best possible wrap-around support available to aid officials’ performance for the benefit of the game.
Role purpose
We are looking for a highly motivated and forward-thinking Physical Performance Coach to join our Physical Performance team. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting elite match officials across the professional men’s and women’s game, helping them perform at their physical best in one of the most demanding sporting environments.
Working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will plan, monitor, and deliver individualised gym- and pitch-based strength, speed, conditioning, and rehabilitation programmes. You will combine coaching expertise, data-informed decision-making, and a passion for innovation to help shape world-class physical performance support for match officials.
Main duties
- Take lead responsibility for providing world-leading physical performance support to an allocated group of professional match officials
- Design, implement, monitor, and refine individualised physical preparation programmes focused on strength, power, speed, movement quality and endurance
- Plan and deliver gym-based and pitch-based sessions for individuals, small groups, and match officials returning from injury
- Conduct pre-season and in-season physical profiling, fitness testing, and re-testing, and analyse outcomes to inform programme design
- Remotely monitor training load, readiness, and physical progress, ensuring workload is managed effectively and safely
- Produce and communicate regular physical performance reviews for match officials
- Maintain high standards of data collection, reporting, and interpretation, using objective evidence to support decision-making
- Work collaboratively with coaches, physical performance, physiotherapy, medical, and wider performance staff to deliver integrated support
- Contribute to the organisation’s physical performance and research strategy, helping translate current evidence into practical performance solutions
- Lead or contribute to innovation projects within physical performance and share learning regularly with the wider team
- Support the planning and preparation of training camps, testing days, and other performance activities as required
- Undertake continuous professional development, both independently and through organisation-led learning opportunities

Person Specification
- An MSC in Sport Science, Strength and Conditioning, or a related discipline
- An appropriate professional accreditation such as UKSCA, CSCS, ASCA, or BASES, or evidence that you are working towards accreditation
- 5+ Years Experience of working in Elite Sport
- Strong experience delivering high-level physical performance support in elite sport
- Excellent knowledge of strength, power, speed, endurance and movement methodologies
- Experience using a broad range of physical performance testing methods and technologies
- The ability to build trust quickly and work effectively with match officials, coaches, and multidisciplinary colleagues
- Clear communication skills, including the confidence to explain complex ideas simply and present informed views to a multidisciplinary team
- Hard working, self-motivated individual, who shows an attention to detail in their work
- A proactive, curious, and innovative mindset, with a genuine passion for applying research to practice
