Help Shape the Future of Football at Southampton FC

We are delighted to be supporting an ambitious and forward-thinking football club on in the search for a Lead First Team Physiotherapist. The club continues to invest in its high-performance environment and is committed to creating the conditions for players and staff to thrive.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive physiotherapist to play a key role in supporting the health, wellbeing, and performance of the First Team squad. Working as part of a multidisciplinary performance team, you will lead the delivery of injury prevention, rehabilitation, pitch-side medical support, and ongoing player management, helping to drive high standards across the performance environment.

The Impact You'll Make:

  • Lead the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of all First Team players.
  • Produce progressive injury rehabilitation programmes based on FDSC principles.
  • Organise, develop and implement comprehensive movement screening assessments for the First Team.
  • Lead the day to day delivery of the injury prevention programme, working alongside physiotherapists, sports science staff and volunteers.
  • Work collaboratively with the First Team multidisciplinary team, including coaching, sports science, psychology and medical staff, to provide a holistic approach to player management.
  • Lead First Team match day medical cover and liaise with club doctors regarding medical provision.
  • Manage injuries through accurate documentation, monthly clinical audits and reporting via Sports Office.
  • Support player recruitment by conducting pre signing medical assessments and providing comprehensive medical reports.
  • Oversee evidence based best practice protocols for the club's most common injuries.
  • Lead the development of the Athlete Health Strategy within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain professional standards through continued professional development, governance and clinical record keeping.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the medical team through regular one to ones, Personal Development Plans, team meetings and performance management.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team culture by recognising achievement and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies, safeguarding responsibilities and risk assessments.
  • Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion by creating an environment that is welcoming, inclusive and free from discrimination, harassment and abuse.
  • Undertake ad hoc duties as required by management

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
  • A passion for developing best practice in football.
  • Leadership experience within a medical or high-performance environment.
  • A collaborative approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organised, professional, and confident working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.
