Physiotherapist – Health Care of the Older Person (HOP) Inpatient Service Lead

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Band 7 Physiotherapist to lead the Health Care of the Older Person (HOP) inpatient physiotherapy service at Torbay Hospital.

This is a senior clinical leadership role combining advanced physiotherapy expertise with operational and team management responsibilities. You will lead a team delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to older adults with complex needs, including frailty, multimorbidity, cognitive impairment, and functional decline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible leadership across multiple wards, ensuring safe staffing, effective use of resources, and the delivery of evidence-based, compassionate care.
  • Play a key role in improving patient flow, reducing length of stay, and preventing deconditioning, supporting a “home first” approach to care.
  • Manage a specialist clinical caseload involving complex frailty, multimorbidity, and cognitive impairment.
  • Lead physiotherapy input into multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, supporting coordinated care and patient flow.
  • Drive proactive discharge planning and support safe, timely transitions of care.
  • Promote rehabilitation, recovery, and independence within a “home first” and deconditioning prevention model.
  • Supervise, appraise, and develop physiotherapy staff, support workers, and students.
  • Coordinate staffing, rota management, and workforce deployment across inpatient wards.
  • Monitor service performance, contributing to reduced length of stay and improved outcomes.
  • Lead service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, professional standards, and Trust policies.
  • Work collaboratively across organisational boundaries to support integrated care pathways.
  • Act as a clinical expert and role model for complex decision-making and high-risk cases.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
