General Information
We are recruiting for a Pig Stockperson to join a well-established, family-run farming business in North Yorkshire, DL6.
They operate a 700-sow indoor farrow-to-finish unit alongside an arable enterprise, producing and milling much of its own feed using home-grown and purchased cereals.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, supportive team where high standards of pig welfare and stockmanship are central to the business.
About The Farm
- 700-sow indoor farrow-to-finish unit
- Sows housed on straw
- Majority of growers and finishers kept in slatted buildings
- Home-milled and mixed feed produced using home-grown and purchased cereals
- Family-run farming business with both pig and arable enterprises
- Team consists of 3 full-time staff, 2 part-time staff and the two owners
The breeding unit houses all of the sows and nursery pigs, along with approximately 25% of the finishing pigs. The remaining finishers are kept on a separate farm.
The Job
- Working in the farrowing houses
- Processing litters
- Piglet vaccinations
- Fostering piglets
- Daily health and welfare checks
- Moving pigs between departments
- Mucking out and bedding up
- Pressure washing and maintaining clean accommodation
- Assisting with general farm duties as required

About You
- Honest and reliable
- Hard-working with good attention to detail
- Passionate about high standards of animal welfare
- Able to work well as part of a small team
- Previous pig experience would be beneficial, particularly within farrowing, although applicants with the right attitude and willingness to learn will also be considered
Desirable Skills
- Telehandler experience is important
- Tractor experience is advantageous but not essential
£14 - £17 per hour + OT dependent on experience and whether accommodation is required.
Accommodation available if required.
Hours
- 07:00 - 17:00 Monday/Thursday
- 08 - 17:00 Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday
- One weekend on, one weekend off
- Weekend work is typically only 5–6 hours across the whole weekend.
