About the Role

Central CID, Berkshire West are seeking to recruit a PIP2 Investigator to investigate a variety of serious and complex crimes and incidents. We are seeking someone with experience of CID investigations or equivalent and applicants who are already PIP1 or PIP2 accredited.

Your development will mirror that of a Detective Constable. A PIP2 investigator can expect to receive the same training as a Detective Constable with the expectation that they lead the investigation of Serious & Complex Crime.

PIP2 Investigators hold designated powers to enable them to conduct searches and interviews.

Key Accountabilities

  • Undertake evidence collection accurately and efficiently within an investigatory process, to support a mixed economy team of Police Officers and staff.
  • Record witness accounts in the form of a statement which meets the required evidential and quality standards to comply with CPS guidelines.
  • Undertake tasks as directed by an OIC or supervisor in line with level of training and designation which includes house to house enquiries, the scoping, seizing and viewing of media footage and exhibit handling.
  • Engage in the management of suspects where use of force is not anticipated, e.g. accompanying officers on risk-assessed compliant arrest attempts or interviewing compliant prisoners in custody.
  • Carry a workload of PIP2-level (i.e. serious and complex) crimes and crime-related incidents, including unexpected deaths.
  • Review material in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Investigation Act (CPIA) to identify further lines of enquiry or relevant material where directed by the OIC or the Disclosure Officer.
  • View CCTV and/or other media footage as circumstances dictate, which will include copying relevant footage, obtaining evidence from mobile phones and identifying further investigative opportunities.
  • Attend court to give specific evidence when required, including evidence of exhibits seizure / handling, statement taking and to support the investigation/prosecution team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
