About the role
Join our National Gas Services (NGS) fabrication team and use your pipe fitting, fabrication, and mechanical skills on work that directly supports safe, reliable operations.
You’ll work across workshop and site-based projects, preparing, fitting, assembling, maintaining, and repairing pipework and mechanical equipment to exacting safety and quality standards.

As a Pipe Fitter, the quality and accuracy of your work will have a direct impact on project delivery and operational performance. From fabricating pipework in the workshop to supporting complex tie-ins on operational sites, you’ll help make sure equipment is prepared correctly, safely, and ready when it’s needed.
What you'll be doing
- Fabricate, fit, assemble, maintain, and repair pipework systems and mechanical equipment to engineering drawings and specifications
- Prepare pipework for welding through accurate measurement, machining, bevelling, grinding, alignment, and fit-up
- Operate workshop machinery and equipment to manufacture, modify, and repair components
- Verify materials, dimensions, tolerances, and completed assemblies against project and quality requirements
- Support welding, testing, installation, commissioning, and critical tie-in activities
- Work with Supervisors, Project Engineers, Welders, and operational teams to deliver fabrication and maintenance requirements
- Maintain high standards of safety, equipment care, material control, and workshop housekeeping

What you'll bring
This role would suit someone who enjoys practical, precision engineering and takes pride in delivering safe, high-quality fabrication work. You’ll be comfortable working independently as a skilled technician while collaborating closely with the wider fabrication and operational team.
Essential
- Proven pipe fitting, fabrication, mechanical assembly, or maintenance experience in an industrial, engineering, utilities, construction, or fabrication environment
- Practical mechanical engineering experience involving pipework, pressure-containing systems, or mechanical equipment
- Experience using conventional workshop and machining equipment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering, fabrication, isometric drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications
- Experience preparing, fitting, and assembling carbon steel and stainless-steel pipework, including preparation for welding
- Relevant apprenticeship or recognised Level 3 engineering qualification in a mechanical, gas, or related discipline
- Ability to support workshop and site-based work across the UK
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Gas transmission, pressure systems, pipeline, or wider energy-sector experience
- Experience supporting coded welding, tie-in, or critical weld activities
- Machining qualification or strong demonstrable machining experience
- CCNSG Safety Passport, IOSH Working Safely, or relevant lifting and slinging qualification
- Knowledge of material traceability and fabrication quality documentation
- Security clearance
