Pipe Stress Engineer

The Pipe Stress Engineer is responsible for performing detailed piping stress analysis to ensure the integrity, safety, and compliance of piping systems under various operating and environmental conditions.

Location: Camden, NJ (On-site)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform piping stress analysis (static and dynamic) using tools such as AutoPIPE or CAESAR II.
  • Develop stress design basis, critical line lists, and analysis procedures.
  • Evaluate thermal expansion, sustained loads, occasional loads, and seismic effects.
  • Provide design recommendations, including support locations and types, pipe routing optimization, and flexibility enhancements such as expansion loops and joints.
  • Analyze and mitigate high piping loads on equipment nozzles (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels), ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and vendor allowable limits.
  • Select appropriate spring hangers to accommodate thermal expansion and maintain acceptable piping loads.
  • Generate and review stress reports, calculations, and design documentation.
  • Provide pipe support load data and coordinate with pipe support engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME NB, ASME NCD, ASME B31.1, B31.3, and applicable project specifications.
  • Review and validate third-party stress analysis.
  • Coordinate with layout, materials, and structural teams for optimal designs.
  • Support 3D modeling efforts, clash detection, and routing optimization.
  • Assist construction teams by resolving field issues related to piping stress.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in piping stress analysis.
  • Proficiency in stress analysis software such as AutoPIPE (preferred) or CAESAR II.
  • Knowledge of piping design, materials, and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME NB, ASME NCD, ASME B31.1 and B31.3 codes.
  • Understanding of static and dynamic analysis methods.
  • Experience with 3D tools such as SmartPlant 3D, PDMS, and Navisworks.
  • Ability to interpret piping layouts and isometrics.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nuclear or power plant projects.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.4 and B31.8 codes, as well as AISC and ASME Section III, NF for structural supports.
  • Knowledge of HDPE and PVC piping analysis.
  • Familiarity with dynamic analysis including seismic and water hammer.
  • Working knowledge of pipe rupture analysis and leak-before-break is a big plus.
  • Eligibility to work under 10 CFR Part 810

Compensation:

Annual compensation based on skills and experience ranging from $110,000 to $135,000.
