MIG/MAG Welder (Contract)

Welding and Joining

Location: Granta Park, Cambridge
Contract: Contract basis, duration to be confirmed
Working arrangement: On site, four days per week
Hours: 07:30 to 16:30 across the agreed four working days

About the role

TWI is looking for an experienced MIG/MAG Welder to join our busy welding team on a contract basis, working four days per week at our Granta Park site. The role will focus on welding end bungs to thick section carbon steel pipe in a practical welding and fabrication environment.

You will carry out MIG/MAG welding in the 1G position, with pipes rotated using automated pedal driven rollers. You will follow approved welding procedure specifications, use propane torch preheating where required and work safely with hand and power tools. You will also be expected to maintain a clean, organised and safe working area in line with TWI health and safety requirements, risk assessments and COSHH assessments.

Key Requirements

  • Level 2 welding qualification, or equivalent practical experience gained within a welding and fabrication environment.
  • Proven experience in MIG/MAG welding to a high standard.
  • Experience welding carbon steel, including heavy walled pipe and plate materials.
  • Ability to work from and adhere to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Experience carrying out 1G position welding of pipe end bungs using rotating pipe systems.
  • Understanding of propane torch pre-heating techniques.
  • Competent in the safe use of hand held grinders and other workshop tools and equipment.
  • Strong awareness of health, safety and housekeeping standards within a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience working within a busy welding and fabrication workshop.
  • Ability to supply and maintain your own welding PPE.
  • Reliable, self motivated and capable of working independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Available to work on site at TWI's Granta Park facility for four days per week.

Contract information

This opportunity is offered on a contract basis. The contract duration and rate will be confirmed as part of the recruitment process.

Four days per week, 07:30 to 16:30, based on site at Granta Park, Cambridge.
