Role Title: Place and Development Director

Business Unit: Investments

Location: Aberdeen

Role Overview

The post-holder will be employed by Galliford Try Investments and seconded full-time into Hub North. Hub North is a public-private sector partnership company established to develop, fund and deliver community infrastructure projects such as schools, housing healthcare facilities and other public assets. Along with project development support functions the role is centred around critical functions of leading the business place, investment and advisory functions. Hub works directly as a Development Partner for Councils, Health Boards and Emergency Services across the North East, Highlands, the Islands and Argyll & Bute.

The post-holder will work with Clients, Government, Government Agencies, Supply Chain Partners and external third parties such as developers and funders to develop and deliver such projects, commissions and support critical functions.

The post-holder will be required to lead, coordinate and work with numerous parties in order to develop our advisory and consultancy functions in tandem with the project delivery team. Key sectors in which Hub North Scotland operates include Education, Health, Housing, Energy, Leisure and Social Care.

The post-holder will need to be self-motivating, should have good communication and management skills, and have a sound commercial knowledge of contracts. Understanding of public sector policy context will be advantageous.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Sourcing & Strategy: Identify, source and secure new opportunities, leading analysis and shaping compelling propositions across core activity areas: Place Programmes, Energy & Net Zero Programmes and Advisory Portfolio
  • Partnership Development: Drive the identification and engagement of strategic relationships.
  • Team & Advisor Leadership: Lead the selection, appointment and management of partners, consultants and design teams, ensuring optimal capability and alignment with project objectives.
  • Programme Delivery: Establish and oversee development and commission programmes, proactively managing performance and implementing corrective actions to ensure delivery to key milestones.
  • Ownership: Take full accountability for the development of commissions, ensuring a clear and assured delivery.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Presentation: Oversee the production of high-quality presentation materials and lead the presentation of proposals to landowners, Registered Providers, funders and other key stakeholders.
  • Governance & Approvals: Lead internal governance processes, securing approvals, setting budgets and maintaining rigorous control over expenditure.
  • Support translation of local and national policies into business cases and development plans, including place, net zero, inclusive economic growth, digital and any other arising new policies as they emerge.
  • Form close working relationship with Executive Management Team, working closely with Operations Director and Commercial Director.
  • Fulfil executive management duties – holding post on senior management team.
  • Fulfil executive management duties supporting the functions of the Chief Executive and hub Board.
  • Promote and support pipeline growth, including working with Clients and colleagues to develop schemes which are being assessed for their strategic case for investment or through internal business case process.
  • Support development and extension of supply chain partners.
  • Consultant appointment, planning and commission delivery.
  • Submit reports as required to the Hub North Scotland and support hub improvement initiatives.
  • Delivery of Business Plan Objectives and Targets and Territory Vision.
  • Contribution towards the achievement of Hubco’s aim to be the Client’s Development partner of choice.
  • Promotion of and development of the companies project “pipeline”.
  • It will be essential for the post-holder to establish close and strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.

About You:

  • Able to work under pressure, developing workable programmes and delivering to deadlines
  • Able to absorb and comprehend information from a variety of sources and disciplines.
  • A team player and leader, with excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
  • Clear written and oral communication.
  • Degree qualified and/or professionally accredited (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
