Placement Leader / W&I
London
We’ve been retained by a global insurance broker with an established transactional risk practice, advising private equity sponsors, corporates and their advisers on the structuring and placement of W&I, tax liability and contingent risk insurance across international M&A. As the practice continues to scale, they are looking to appoint a Placement Leader to lead and own all placement activity across the team.
This is a pivotal, market-facing leadership role at the centre of the practice. Origination brings the deals in; you decide how they go to market, with whom and on what terms. You will have the authority to shape the firm’s insurer relationships and placement strategy across every transaction the team handles.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will lead the placement of W&I and related transactional risk across the firm’s deal flow, from market approach and non-binding indication strategy through underwriting calls, policy negotiation and binding. You will own the firm’s relationships with insurers and MGAs across London, Europe and beyond, holding the market intelligence on capacity, pricing and appetite that ensures clients secure the strongest available terms.
Alongside this, you will set placement standards and process, oversee the quality and consistency of wording negotiation, coach brokers across the team on market approach, and work closely with origination and claims colleagues so that placement decisions stay tied to client outcomes. You will also represent the practice in the market and act as the senior internal authority on coverage, exclusions and underwriter appetite.

We’re keen to speak with experienced W&I brokers, or underwriters with a genuine appetite to move to the broking side, who bring a deep and current network across the transactional risk insurer market and a track record of negotiating terms on complex, multi-jurisdictional deals. You’ll bring the market credibility to hold your ground with underwriters, sound technical judgement on coverage, and the presence to lead and develop a team.
