Placement Student – Electrochemistry

We are looking for an enthusiastic student to join our team specializing in Battery Technology within our Accelera business unit in Milton Keynes.

During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential!

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence in August 2027. This is a hybrid role and require 3 days a week onsite.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Support the design, assembly and operation of experimental lithium-ion battery test systems.
  • Learn how advanced battery cells are characterised, validated and evaluated throughout their life cycle.
  • Assist in the development of laboratory equipment and instrumentation used to investigate battery performance and ageing.
  • Plan and execute experimental investigations involving battery cells and supporting hardware.
  • Analyse large datasets using engineering and data analysis tools to identify key trends and insights.
  • Develop software-based tools and visualisations to support interpretation of experimental results.
  • Present findings and recommendations through technical reports and project reviews.
  • Collaborate with Scientists, Engineers and Technicians on advanced battery development projects.
  • Develop an understanding of how mechanical, thermal and electrical factors influence battery performance and durability.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Currently studying towards a BEng or MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or a related discipline. Ideally, a student who has completed 2 years of the degree.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and engineering design principles would be beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good work ethic, sense of ownership and responsibility.
  • Enthusiasm for experimental engineering and hands-on laboratory work.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Experience using Python, MATLAB or other technical computing tools would be advantageous.
