Placement Student – Electronic System Engineering
We are looking for an enthusiastic Electronic System Engineering Student to join our team specialising in Controls & Electronics for our Engine Business Segment in Darlington, United Kingdom.
During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organisation operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.
The requirements are to be onsite for 3 days per week so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.
This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence in Summer 2027.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Supporting Engineering: Assisting developing requirements of L Platform Global VII engine. Support with building test benches and wiring schematics.
- Compliance Knowledge: Developing and maintaining laboratory environment and automation testing using CAN tools and other tools for data acquisition.
- Employee Relations: Assisting other team members within the controls and electronics organization.
- Policy Adherence: Ensuring all lab safety and policies are met and followed.
- Team Support: Supporting team members in need of controls setup and system integration.
- Report Management: Understanding and assisting in controls automation testing and generation of test reports that meets with today’s V-model structure.
- Record Keeping: Coordinating and maintaining laboratory test setups, materials, and component inventories.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Candidates studying towards an Automation/ Energy/ Electrical/ Automotive Engineering degree course.
- Strong logical thinking, effective time management, and collaborative teamwork skills.
- Ability to show initiative with a creative mindset.
- Evidence of extra-curricular or voluntary experience in line with Cummins company values may be beneficial.
