PLACEMENT STUDENT – Supply Chain Logistics, Darlington

We are looking for an enthusiastic Supply Chain Logistics Placement Student to join our team specializing in Logistics for our Corporate/CBS Segment in Darlington, UK. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer of 2027.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Support day-to-day transportation and logistics operations for inbound and outbound shipments; assist with the planning, booking, tracking, and monitoring of road, air, ocean, and courier shipments.
  • Liaise with carriers, freight forwarders, warehouses, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve transportation issues and support service delivery; monitor shipment progress and proactively communicate risks, delays, and recovery actions.
  • Support the preparation and validation of shipping documentation, customs documentation, commercial invoices, and transportation paperwork; assist with transportation planning during peak demand periods, plant shutdowns, and operational constraints.
  • Support freight cost control by identifying consolidation opportunities and alternative transportation solutions; participate in carrier performance reviews and support the measurement of service, cost, and compliance metrics.
  • Investigate shipment exceptions, delays, and service failures and support implementation of corrective actions; support continuous improvement projects focused on transportation efficiency, lead time reduction, service improvement, and cost savings.
  • Develop KPI reporting and logistics dashboards to improve operational visibility and decision-making; work collaboratively with Planning, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Customer Support, Shipping, Warehousing, and Trade Compliance teams to support uninterrupted supply chain operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role you will need the following: 

  • Studying towards a degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Economics, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong interest in transportation, logistics, and global supply chain operations; excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment along with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities; great communication skills and confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of Power BI, Power Query, Access, or similar analytical tools would be beneficial but is not essential.
