Placements Officer
We are looking for a proactive and motivated individual to join the Placements Team within the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences on a fixed-term basis from October 2026 until December 2027.
About The Role
We welcome candidates who are keen to learn, take initiative, and contribute positively to a collaborative and student-focused team environment.
The successful candidate will primarily support students within the Department of Economics, whilst also providing support across other departments within the Faculty as required, including the Department of Health.
Placement Officers play a vital role in supporting students to secure and succeed in professional placements.
The role involves:
- Developing and maintaining relationships with placement providers and partner organisations
- Researching and promoting placement opportunities in the UK and internationally
- Ensuring students receive high-quality guidance throughout the placement process
You will act as a key point of contact for undergraduate students, employers, academic staff and external partners, providing advice and support on placement opportunities, applications and placement-related processes.
You will work closely with colleagues across the Faculty to deliver an excellent student experience and contribute to positive placement outcomes.
Our ideal candidate
You will be highly organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, employers, academic colleagues and external partners.
You will be confident using your initiative, balancing competing priorities and managing multiple deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
An understanding of employability and student career development within the Higher Education sector would be advantageous, alongside a genuine interest in supporting students to achieve their placement goals.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
