We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Planner to join our team, supporting the delivery of a major National Grid infrastructure project. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in both the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and construction phases of a significant scheme, helping to shape and drive project success from planning through to delivery.
As a Planner, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project programmes, providing critical planning support to both delivery and commercial teams. Working alongside a resolute project team, you will provide valuable programme insight, support NEC contract compliance, and help ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with project objectives. This role offers excellent long-term career prospects within a growing and evolving sector.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project programmes throughout all phases of delivery.
- Monitor project progress and provide accurate programme reporting to project stakeholders.
- Support project teams by providing programme analysis, forecasting, and performance updates.
- Collaborate closely with operational teams to ensure programmes accurately reflect project delivery requirements.
- Support commercial teams with programme-related information and NEC contract compliance.
- Identify programme risks, constraints, and opportunities, recommending appropriate mitigation measures.
- Produce and update programme outputs, dashboards, and reporting documentation.
- Assist with change management processes and assess the impact of project changes on programme delivery.
- Collaborate with project controls, commercial and operational teams to ensure alignment across project objectives.
- Attend planning meetings and provide advice on programme strategy, sequencing, and delivery performance.
- Support continuous improvement of planning processes, systems, and reporting tools.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- Experience in a planning role within infrastructure, energy, utilities, construction, or related sectors.
- Experience developing and maintaining detailed project programmes.
- Strong understanding of project planning principles, scheduling methodologies, and programme management.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience providing programme support within multi-disciplinary project environments.
- Understanding of NEC contracts and programme compliance requirements.
- Ability to analyse programme data and present findings clearly to stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and critical thinking skills with excellent diligence.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience working closely with delivery teams to support project performance and successful outcomes.
- Site-based project experience within infrastructure or energy sectors.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Professional planning qualifications or working towards a recognised planning qualification.
- Experience using project controls tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of software applications such as Aphex and Power BI.
- Experience supporting major infrastructure, utilities, or energy projects.
- Understanding of project controls, reporting, and performance management processes.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
