About The Role
As a Planner based in Chelmsford, you will coordinate field operations for Essex & Suffolk Water on a three-month temporary contract. This full-time role, paying £16.30 per hour, runs Monday to Friday with a hybrid arrangement of three remote days. As a Planner, you will be responsible for the effective scheduling and coordination of field activities, ensuring our Technicians and Operatives have the right resources and information to maintain the water and sewerage networks.
You will play an important role in ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and in line with regulatory requirements and agreed service levels, while helping us deliver an excellent service to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily workloads using corporate systems, balancing tasks and available resources to ensure activities are delivered within regulatory requirements and agreed service levels.
- React quickly to in-day changes and urgent tasks, using your judgement and experience to determine the best course of action.
- Monitor and maintain corporate systems, ensuring they accurately reflect field activity and resource availability.
- Develop a strong technical awareness of field activities and understand what is required to deliver work successfully.
- Plan work in accordance with street works legislation, including the New Roads and Street Works Act.
- Serve notices to local authorities within the required timescales.
- Support colleagues and planning teams across different regions when required.
- Manage multiple demands effectively and prioritise workloads in a reactive environment.
- Liaise with customers and colleagues professionally, building and maintaining excellent working relationships.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Is
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident managing competing priorities and changing demands.
- Experienced in scheduling work and coordinating resources.
- Comfortable working to deadlines in a busy, reactive environment.
- A confident communicator with strong customer service skills.
- Able to use their own initiative and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ideally experienced within utilities, water, highways, street works, or a similar operational environment.
- Knowledgeable of street works legislation and regulatory requirements is desirable.
