A Planner II job is available with the City of Fort Worth Neighborhood Services Department/Planning and Reporting Division. The City of Fort Worth is searching for an innovative and effective individual to complete strategic planning in support of housing and community development projects. The Planner II works with a strong supportive team on community development engagement and outreach, preparation of annual planning efforts, housing development projects, and works closely with Public Service Agencies, local nonprofits, and social service organizations in addressing the needs of low-to-moderate income Fort Worth families.
This is a grant-funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Geographic Information Systems, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Archaeology or Architectural History, Real Estate Development or related field
- Two (2) years of experience in planning, urban design or related field
- For this job, there is no applicable education substitution for the minimum qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field, along with experience working with ArcGIS
- Strong research, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate information to a variety of audiences
- Knowledge and experience working with municipal government and federal regulations, with strong attention to detail, excellent reading comprehension, flexibility in managing diverse assignments, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment

Job Responsibilities:
- Complete Environmental Reviews for all HUD-funded projects and activities
- Work closely with the Community Development Planner II to conduct community outreach and engage Fort Worth neighborhoods
- Serve as the department’s Key Performance Indicators Coordinator and track and analyze program performance data
- Prepare public notices, internal memoranda, HUD-required forms, reports, spreadsheet analyses, program schedules, housing plans, and related documentation
- Maintain HUD databases and work collaboratively with internal and external customers to ensure compliance with City and HUD policies and procedures, including providing applicable training
- Attend monthly Community Development Council meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.; prepare presentations and assist with meeting planning and coordination as needed
- Represent NSD at community meetings and City Council meetings, conduct relevant training, and complete departmental mapping requests
- Assist with Request for Proposal processes as needed
