Role Responsibilities

You will be seconded into a client organisation to support their delivery of strategic planning and consenting objectives on a major project or programme, working closely with the Planning Manager, permissions team, suppliers and wider client team.

• Coordinate and contribute to the delivery of robust TCPA and DCO applications.
• Support the governance, coordination and management of TCPA and DCO application processes.
• Coordinate and/or oversee application delivery activities, including stakeholder engagement, consultation and preparation of permissions documentation.
• Work closely with the client team and external consultants responsible for environmental assessment, design and other technical disciplines to ensure effective integration of application inputs.
• Liaise with local planning authorities, regulators, community partnerships and other stakeholders involved in the planning and consenting process.
• Support the planning, preparation and delivery of consultation activities.
• Ensure relevant legislation, policies, standards and good practice are appropriately considered throughout the consenting process.
• Monitor and report on progress, performance, risks, issues and dependencies associated with the application process.
• Identify potential risks and issues and support their effective resolution and escalation where appropriate.
• Provide planning and consenting advice and guidance to the client team and stakeholders, appropriate to your level of experience.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of planning and consenting processes, systems and ways of working.
• Build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams and support a collaborative approach to problem solving and delivery.
• Where appropriate, provide guidance, coordination or leadership to less experienced colleagues and project team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

We are looking for candidates with experience in planning, land use planning, development consent or infrastructure consenting, ideally gained within major or complex infrastructure projects.

You will ideally have:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, such as town, rural or urban planning, environmental planning, environmental science or a related field.
• Experience working on planning, consenting or land use matters, preferably within large-scale infrastructure or other complex development projects.
• Experience contributing to or supporting TCPA and/or DCO applications in the UK.
• An understanding of the Planning Act 2008, Town and Country Planning Act 1990, National Policy Statements and other relevant legislation, policy and guidance.
• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams, including internal teams, consultants, suppliers and other external stakeholders.
• Strong communication, collaboration, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate inputs and work effectively to challenging deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to quality assurance.
• The ability to operate effectively in a changing environment and adapt to evolving priorities, requirements and timelines.
• A willingness to take ownership and responsibility for delivering high-quality outcomes.
• Professional membership of a relevant body, such as the RTPI or ISEP, is desirable.

Experience Level

We welcome applications from candidates with a range of relevant experience, from experienced planning professionals through to senior and lead-level practitioners.

The level of responsibility will be aligned to your experience, skills and capability. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience in infrastructure planning, development consenting, TCPA, DCOs or related planning and permissions activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Urban/Rural/Town Planning, Environmental Planning or a related discipline.
• Relevant professional qualification or membership (e.g. RTPI or ISEP) is desirable.
