We are relied upon to deliver to a high standard to ensure the smooth running of the department for our colleagues and millions of HMRC customers.

This role sits within Finance, Portfolio, Performance and Organisational Transformation (FPPOT) and covers the full remit of CDIO teams.

You will play a key role in connecting strategic priorities with delivery, helping CDIO to understand performance, progress and emerging risks.

Working closely with senior leaders and teams across HMRC, you will support business planning, performance reporting, annual reporting and executive decision making.

The role combines analysis, planning and stakeholder engagement. You will help coordinate key organisational processes, respond to requests from Executive Committee (ExCom) and senior leaders and develop high quality products that provide insight and support effective decision making.

Job Description

  • Support the coordination and delivery of the CDIO Business Plan, Annual Report, Commitments and organisational reporting processes.
  • Contribute to the development of performance and insight products, including quarterly reviews, annual reporting and leadership performance packs.
  • Analyse information from a range of sources to identify trends, risks, opportunities and emerging issues.
  • Respond to commissions from ExCom, Senior Leaders and the Director General's office, providing timely analysis, briefing and advice.
  • Work with business areas to understand delivery progress, challenges and dependencies, helping to build an accurate view of organisational performance.
  • Translate complex information into clear and accessible products tailored to different audiences.
  • Build effective relationships across CDIO and partner functions to improve planning, performance management and organisational insight.
  • Support continuous improvement of planning, reporting and performance management processes.

Person specification

  • An analytical thinker who can interpret complex information and identify key insights.
  • A strong communicator who can tailor messages for different audiences, including Senior Leaders.
  • A collaborative partner who builds effective relationships across organisational boundaries.
  • An organised and proactive individual who can manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Someone with strong organisational awareness who understands how delivery contributes to wider strategic outcomes.
  • Someone comfortable with exercising judgment when responding to emerging issues and requests.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
