Our Planning & Development team advises landowners, developers, promoters, investors, rural businesses and public sector clients across Northumberland and the wider North East. We are involved in projects ranging from rural diversification schemes and planning applications through to strategic land promotion, development appraisals and major development opportunities.
Whether you are MRTPI, MRICS or have developed relevant experience through another route, we are interested in hearing from talented individuals who can contribute to the continued growth of the service.

- Undertaking site assessments, development appraisals and valuations.
- Advising landowners, developers and promoters on development opportunities and constraints.
- Supporting strategic land promotion projects and Local Plan representations.
- Assisting with landowner negotiations and development agreements where appropriate.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, local authorities and professional contacts.
- Managing fee-earning instructions, including budgets, programme management, reporting and client communication.
- Identifying new business opportunities and contributing to the growth of the Planning & Development service.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across Galbraith's wider rural, commercial, valuation and agency teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
