Associate Town Planner

Location: Cardiff

Salary: GBP55,000:GBP65,000

Type: Permanent, full-time

The Opportunity

A leading, employee-owned planning, design and environmental consultancy is looking to appoint an Associate Town Planner to join its growing planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, with a particular focus on strategic land promotion, residential-led development, planning consents, and complex planning projects.

You will play a key role in delivering planning strategies, managing projects, and developing strong relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders. The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to the wider growth and development of the planning team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning strategies for strategic site promotion, allocations, and planning applications.
  • Provide planning advice across a range of development sectors, particularly residential-led schemes.
  • Manage complex and multi-phase planning applications, including outline, detailed, and reserved matters applications.
  • Undertake site appraisals, feasibility assessments, and planning risk reviews.
  • Advise clients on planning policy, case law, and regulatory changes.
  • Support and contribute to planning appeals, Local Plan examinations, and strategic plan-making.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and manage project programmes and budgets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to bids, tenders, business development, and work-winning activities.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the continued development of the planning practice.

Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • MRTPI accreditation.
  • 10+ years experience working within the UK planning system.
  • Strong technical planning knowledge and experience of complex planning projects.
  • Experience in strategic land promotion, planning applications, and/or development promotion.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and project management abilities.
  • Experience developing client and stakeholder relationships.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial, and commercially minded approach.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
