Planning Lawyer - International Firm, London
Contract: 6-12 Months. 5+ PQE
We are working with a leading international law firm that is looking to engage an experienced Planning Lawyer to join its highly regarded practice in London on a contract basis. The assignment is to start ASAP, will run for an initial period of 6-12 months and will be well suited to planning lawyers with upwards of 5 years’ PQE. The firm operates a hybrid working policy.
About the Role
The successful individual will advise on a broad range of planning matters, with a particular focus on work arising under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. This will involve working closely with clients, project teams, technical consultants, local planning authorities and other key stakeholders.
The role will include advising on:
- Planning applications
- Appeals
- Enforcement matters
- Permitted development
- Listed buildings and conservation areas
- Broader planning strategy

The successful lawyer will also draft, review and negotiate planning agreements and related documentation, including:
- Section 106 agreements
- Unilateral undertakings
- Planning conditions
There will also be exposure to matters involving the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), as well as related environmental, land and property issues. Depending on experience and interest, there may also be opportunities to support infrastructure projects and Development Consent Order work under the Planning Act 2008.
Candidate Requirements
Candidates should be able to demonstrate:
- Qualification as a UK Solicitor, with ideally upwards of 5 years’ PQE
- A wealth of planning experience gained within leading city or international law firms
- Strong experience advising on matters under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990
- Experience handling planning applications, appeals and section 106 agreements
- Sound knowledge of national and local planning policy
- An understanding of related environmental and property law matters
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills
- The ability to work effectively with clients, technical consultants, local planning authorities and other stakeholders

Experience of DCOs, the Planning Act 2008 and/or nationally significant infrastructure projects would be advantageous, but is not essential.
The ability to start a new role immediately or at short notice.
