Job Description

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated provides enabling technologies for industrial growth markets that require advanced technology and high reliability. These markets include aerospace and defense, factory automation, air and water quality environmental monitoring, electronics design and development, oceanographic research, deepwater oil and gas exploration and production, medical imaging and pharmaceutical research.

Teledyne Valeport have more than 50 years’ experience designing and manufacturing oceanographic, hydrographic and hydrometric instruments. Role Overview

The Planning & Logistics Manager is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of production planning, material readiness, logistics and shipping. This onsite role creates and communicates an achievable manufacturing plan, aligns demand with materials and capacity and ensures finished goods are shipped accurately, on time and in compliance with corporate, legal and regulatory requirements. This role acts as a central coordination point across Production, Procurement, Stores, Service, Sales, Customs and Logistics, using IFS Cloud ERP/MRP to identify risks, set priorities, resolve constraints and support customer delivery, inventory control and operational efficiency onsite.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

  • Manage, support and develop the Logistics & Shipping team, setting clear daily priorities and standards.
  • Coordinate planning and logistics workloads to support customer commitments and business priorities.
  • Maintain team competency and training matrices, identify training needs and complete annual performance reviews.
  • Promote a positive, safe and supportive working environment with clear, consistent communication.
  • Provide regular delivery, planning, risk and compliance updates to the Site Operations Director.

Production Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain short, medium and long-term production schedules.
  • Convert customer orders and forecast demand into achievable manufacturing plans.
  • Release, prioritise and manage production shop orders within IFS Cloud, in line with agreed business rules.
  • Monitor progress, schedule adherence and work order completion, adjusting plans to minimise delays.
  • With the departmental managers, balance resource loading across manufacturing departments and escalate risks to delivery commitments.

MRP, Materials and Inventory

  • Execute and maintain MRP planning activities within IFS Cloud.
  • Review and action MRP recommendations, exception messages and planning alerts.
  • Work with Procurement and Stores to resolve shortages, late deliveries and supply constraints.
  • Maintain accurate planning parameters, including lead times, order policies, safety stock and other planning data.
  • Recommend actions to improve material availability, stock accuracy and inventory holdings.

Capacity and Operational Coordination

  • Assess production capacity against customer demand and identify bottlenecks or resource constraints.
  • Work with Production and Customer Service Managers and supervisors to establish recovery plans and support labour and resource planning.
  • Communicate production priorities and schedule changes clearly across relevant teams.
  • Incorporate Engineering Change Orders and new product introductions into planning activities.
  • Balance competing priorities across manufacturing, service and customer requirements.

Logistics, Shipping and Customer Delivery

  • Ensure goods are shipped promptly following notification of readiness and in line with customer and supplier requirements.
  • Maintain shipment accuracy, service levels and on-time delivery performance.
  • Ensure complete and accurate shipment records are retained and efficiently maintained.
  • Ensure logistics and shipping operating areas are clean, tidy and secure.
  • Coordinate the flow from manufacturing completion through dispatch, highlighting risks before they affect customer delivery.

Customs, Export Control and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure shipments of standard, export-controlled and dangerous goods meet applicable corporate, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the Customs Analyst to ensure correct end-user documentation and authorisations are in place before goods are shipped, including licence applications where required.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures for goods inward and outward logistics transactions.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external enquiries and audits relating to logistics and shipping.

Risk, Performance and Continuous Improvement

  • Identify planning, capacity, material, logistics and compliance risks, and recommend practical mitigation actions.
  • Measure and report planning, delivery, inventory, shipping and compliance performance.
  • Analyse trends and implement improvements to planning effectiveness, logistics flow and customer delivery.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing, process standardisation and continuous improvement across Operations.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of planning and logistics data within IFS Cloud.

  • GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • A formal qualification in supply chain, manufacturing, business or engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in production planning, manufacturing planning or supply chain planning within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems to manage schedules and material requirements.
  • Experience supervising a small team, including workload planning, priority setting, training and performance reviews.
  • Experience working cross-functionally to resolve operational constraints and delivery risks.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience using IFS Cloud ERP.
  • APICS CPIM or a similar supply chain qualification.
  • Experience in a controlled shipping environment involving dangerous or export-controlled goods.
  • Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement training.
  • Awareness of UK customs regulations, import and export compliance, Inward Processing and export clearance.
  • Experience in electronics, instrumentation or engineered-product manufacturing, including low-volume, high-complexity operations.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of MRP principles, production planning and capacity planning.
  • Ability to analyse manufacturing, inventory and delivery data and turn it into clear actions.
  • Good understanding of customs, export controls and shipping compliance for commercial product lines.
  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving and priority-management skills.
  • High attention to accuracy and strong record-keeping discipline.
  • Clear communication and confident stakeholder management across operational teams.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Excel and Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining compliance and customer focus.
