Planning Manager
Oxfordshire
£65,000 - £80,000
I'm working with a well-funded, family-owned SME housebuilder on a Planning Manager hire. They are genuinely acquisitive, active in both the immediate and strategic land markets, and the pipeline has grown to the point where planning needs someone running it full time.
This is the whole job, not a slice of it. Land appraisal through to consent and discharge of conditions, with a clear line to the decision makers.
The role:
- Own the planning process across the portfolio, from pre-application to discharge of conditions
- Support the land team with appraisals, risk and site specific advice during acquisition
- Appoint and manage consultant teams to programme and budget
- Build relationships with officers, councillors and local communities
- Negotiate Section 106 agreements and represent the business at committee and appeal

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
