Senior Planner / Planning Manager
Blue Diamond Recruitment is working exclusively with a highly successful and reputable land promoter based in the West Midlands as they look to recruit a Senior Planner / Planning Manager for their tight knit team.
This role offers the opportunity to join a specialist land promotion business operating across the residential sector. The Senior Planner / Planning Manager will be responsible for managing the preparation, coordination and submission of residential planning applications across multiple regions, playing a key role in progressing sites from early strategy through to consent and disposal.
Operating within a fast-paced and collaborative environment, the role will involve close coordination with internal planning, technical, and design teams, alongside the appointment and management of external consultants. The successful individual will ensure planning applications are delivered efficiently, within agreed timescales and budgets, while maintaining strong working relationships with local authorities, consultants, and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and submission of residential (and where applicable commercial) planning applications across multiple regions
- Oversee all stages of the planning application process, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with agreed programmes
- Appoint, manage, and coordinate external consultant teams, including obtaining, reviewing, and approving quotations within agreed budgets
- Project manage multi-disciplinary consultant teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality planning submissions
- Coordinate and review technical reports to ensure consistency and robustness across all disciplines
- Support pre-application discussions and maintain effective working relationships with Local Planning Authorities
- Remain up to date with planning policy and regulatory changes, sharing relevant updates with the wider business
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement, consultation events, and meetings where required
- Work closely with Design and Technical teams to review site constraints and opportunities and determine appropriate planning strategies
- Assist in negotiating planning conditions and Section 106 agreements post-consent, in collaboration with regional teams
- Support the development and use of planning metrics, controls, and reporting tools to track application progress
- Provide planning updates to regional teams, supporting site boards, landowner, and agent communications
- Review consultant performance, costs, and capability to help maintain a preferred supplier list

You will bring high levels of energy and a proactive, can-do approach, with a strong focus on delivery and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Comfortable working independently, you will take initiative and ownership of your workload, applying a diligent, methodical, and well-organized approach. Flexibility is key, with the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
The role requires a degree or relevant professional qualification in Planning or a related discipline, along with experience gained within the housebuilding, land promotion, or planning consultancy sector. You will have proven experience managing multiple planning projects concurrently, supported by strong project management skills and a clear understanding of critical paths and delivery programmes. Excellent communication skills and a highly organized approach are essential, as is the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
