Salary - £40,443 - £45,015 (Rest Of England) - £45,339.- £50,031 (London)

St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, and Young Responders programmes).

Job Summary

Are you an organised and strategic planner who enjoys bringing people, plans and performance together to deliver meaningful outcomes? At St John Ambulance, we're looking for a Planning & Performance Lead to play a pivotal role in coordinating and driving our organisation-wide planning and performance activity.

Reporting to the Head of Planning & Performance, you'll lead the day-to-day delivery of complex planning cycles, initially focusing on our 2027 planning process, ensuring plans are aligned, consistent and delivered to a high standard. As a central point of coordination and expertise, you'll help shape planning and performance frameworks, strengthen reporting and governance, and support continuous improvement across the organisation. Working closely with stakeholders at all levels, you'll use insight, analysis and collaboration to help inform decision-making and ensure we remain focused on delivering our strategic priorities.

About the role

As our Planning & Performance Lead, you'll play a key role in ensuring our organisational plans are coordinated, aligned and delivered effectively. Working with colleagues across the organisation, you'll help shape how we plan, monitor performance and use insight to drive continuous improvement. You'll:

  • Lead the day-to-day coordination of annual and multi-year planning cycles, ensuring activities are delivered on time and to a high standard.
  • Coordinate planning across national, regional and local teams, providing guidance, tracking progress and ensuring consistency.
  • Manage the collection, quality assurance and consolidation of planning and performance information to support organisational decision-making.
  • Help develop and embed planning and performance frameworks, governance processes and reporting arrangements.
  • Coordinate regular performance reporting cycles, ensuring accurate and meaningful information is available for senior leaders.
  • Analyse planning and performance data to identify trends, risks and opportunities, turning information into actionable insight.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, presentations and briefing materials that support strategic discussions and organisational priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across St John Ambulance, driving collaboration and continuously improving planning and performance processes.

About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, collaborative and analytical, with a passion for turning plans into action and helping teams deliver their best work. You'll bring:

  • Experience coordinating complex projects, planning cycles or organisational activity involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work to tight deadlines and keep multiple workstreams on track.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information, identify trends and present meaningful insights to support decision-making.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing clear reports, presentations and briefing materials for a range of audiences.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to build positive working relationships and influence colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring planning, reporting and documentation are accurate, consistent and of a high standard.
  • The confidence to work independently, use your initiative and continuously look for ways to improve processes and ways of working.
  • A degree (or equivalent relevant experience) and, ideally, experience of organisational planning, performance reporting or working within a complex or charity environment.
