This is a key place-shaping role in a team with a great track record and at the forefront of delivering vibrant, green, safe and accessible neighbourhoods across Waltham Forest.

We are looking for someone creative and energetic with demonstrable planning policy skills – and who is looking to build on those skills to help shape sustainable growth that meets genuine local needs, ensuring that the right infrastructure delivered in the right places, and leading on the delivery of the Council’s innovative Exemplar Design principles and values.

This role will be key to unlocking delivery of new homes, workspace and infrastructure across the borough, the implementation of the new NPPF and new London Plan within Waltham Forest.

The focus of the team, in the near term, is on the implementation of our ambitious adopted Local Plan and Site Allocations, and this role will be key to unlocking delivery of new homes, workspace and infrastructure across the borough. The Officer will also play a key role in the implementation of the new National Planning Policy Framework and the New London Plan within Waltham Forest.

The right candidate will:

  • Work well with others and have the ability to communicate ideas and proposals effectively, demonstrating a creative approach to problem solving and to learning new skills.

In this role, you will work in multidisciplinary team, alongside a Principal Developer Contributions Officer, Developer Contributions Support Officer, GIS Officer and Data Quality Officer. The role will report to the Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Lead.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
