About the Department
The Department of Environment provides key frontline services to the people of Gwynedd, including planning responsibilities such as development control and planning policy within the Gwynedd Planning Authority area.

Main Duties
The Planning Professional Trainee role offers broad practical experience in development management, enforcement, and planning policy, supporting bid work, research, and strategic projects as part of Gwynedd's planning team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with development and compliance management duties, including application processing and report preparation.
- Support the presentation of reports in committees, site visits, and relevant meetings.
- Preparing statements and reports for appeals and representing the Authority as a professional witness.
- Investigate cases of breaches of planning rules and contribute to enforcement proceedings and appeals.
- Provide professional advice to developers, the public, and Local Members on planning matters.
- Support planning policy work, including the preparation of the Local Development Plan, supplementary guidance, and strategic documents.
- Collaborate on strategic projects and research that are a priority for the Council, and represent Gwynedd in external meetings.
- Follow the Council's policies on health and safety, equality, data protection, and carbon reduction.

Responsibility for Self-Development
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Operate within the Council’s policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.

- Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
- Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
- Responsibility to report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
