The job holder will report to the Operations Manager. The job holder will provide operational management and leadership across 2 manufacturing assets, the Monomer & Polymer Plants, both assets operate 24/7. The job holder will take full responsibility for the manufacture and delivery of products in a timely manner (according to production schedules) and in accordance with SHEQ standards, regulations and customer requirements, and at optimal cost. Be a visible leader driving standards in performance and appearance. Act as a exemplar for SHEQ behaviours. To manage and develop (upskill) the operating teams and to improve the unit’s performance through continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are associated with this job role but are not limited to:

  1. Lead and manage the site continuous production teams spanning 2 different locations

    • Polymer Plant
    • Monomer Plant, including Boiler Plant.
  2. Direct management and leadership in:

    SHE

    • Development of safety standards to achieve sustained improvement in SHEQ.
    • Organise SHEQ improvement programs and effective process safety systems.
    • Ensure appropriate investigations and actions are taken to improve SHE performance.
    • Responsibility for the control and management of Safe Systems of Work.
    • Review and updating of key operational documents, e.g SOP’s

Quality

  • Lead investigations into production incidents.
  • Drive Quality improvements that deliver improvements in Right-1st-Time.
  • Development of a quality culture, including Quality near miss reporting.
  • Lead quality RCA’s and provide timely responses to customer concerns/complaints.

Delivery

  • Prioritise and progress plant issues to achieve the optimum plant throughput.
  • Manage and deliver the production plan.
  • Manage planned downtime in an effective and timely manner.
  • Manage the implementation of plant improvements whilst maintaining production availability.
  • Promote innovation in the production unit and contribute to innovation programs.

People

  • Develop team capability through coaching, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure operating roles are clearly defined and operational activities are fully delivered.
  • Ensure the operating teams have the training and development to achieve the appropriate level of competence to carry out their role effectively and safely.
  • Ensure knowledge and expertise is maintained, developed and exchanged within the team.
  • Set priorities and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
  • Provide proactive and reactive plant liaison with other site functions ensuring business alignment.
  • Establish continuous improvement mindset throughout the team.
  1. Deputise for the Site Operations Manager.

Authority

  • Make equipment purchasing (inc CAPEX) recommendations to the Warrington Site Leadership (WSL) team.
  • Ability to make informed decisions related SHEQ and operational issues.
  • Scheduling of tasks to make best use of resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Develop a people plan that upskills the shift and day operating teams.
  • Drives cross functional training and resource reliance and effectiveness.
  • Act as a change agent, implementing continuous improvement objectives.
  • To plan and support execution of work tasks aligned with business priorities.
  • To authorise procurement of operational supplies from suppliers within budget.

  • Strong background in 24/7 chemical plant operations.
  • HND/Degree – Engineering or other related subject.
  • Experience managing teams in a technical environment, including shift teams where contact can be limited.
  • SHE leadership and understanding of relevant legislation and standards.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001, GMP).
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate with independence and autonomy.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management.
  • Experience in handling high hazardous materials, e.g., Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid.
