Job Description

About the Position:

An excellent opportunity has arisen within our works department to join the Shire of Broome in the role of Plant Operator.

The Plant Operator will be responsible for operating plant and equipment across the Shire road network to support a range of civil construction and maintenance activities. Duties include the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, road formations, subgrades, pavements, drainage systems, and reserves, as well as the construction and upkeep of fire access roads. The role involves maintaining existing roads and drainage infrastructure in accordance with approved maintenance and construction programs, undertaking private works in line with Shire policies and procedures, and assisting with a variety of civil works activities, including the operation of other plant and equipment, concrete asset construction, general maintenance tasks, and site clean-up, commensurate with the employee's training, experience, and licences. The position also requires the safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of Shire plant and equipment, accurate record keeping, and ensuring all vehicles and loads comply with Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) limits and relevant legislative requirements. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrate the ability to work under limited supervision, and maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety standards.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years' experience in road construction and plant operation, with demonstrated experience operating civil construction equipment safely and efficiently. They will possess a sound understanding of the servicing, inspection, and maintenance requirements of trucks and heavy plant, together with a strong commitment to workplace health and safety and the ability to consistently follow safe work practices and procedures. The successful applicant will have effective verbal communication skills, the ability to accurately follow instructions, and a proven capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team. A current HR Class Driver's Licence is essential, along with relevant plant operation qualifications or tickets, such as grader, dozer, loader, or equivalent certifications.
