3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
The Plant/Agri/Mower Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day servicing, maintenance, inspection, and repair of a range of plant and agricultural machinery, including mowers, tractor attachments, and hand tools. Working under the direction of the Team Leader, the postholder will ensure machinery is maintained and repaired to a safe and effective working standard, making efficient use of available resources. The role will also support the management of machine parts stock, maintain accurate repair and servicing records, and undertake Mobile Fitter duties when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, inspection, and repair of plant and agricultural machinery, including mowers, tractor attachments, and hand tools.
- Diagnose faults and undertake repairs to ensure machinery is safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.
- Ensure all repairs and servicing are completed efficiently, making effective use of available tools, equipment, parts, and other resources.
- Carry out preventative maintenance to minimize machinery downtime and identify potential faults at an early stage.
- Maintain accurate records of machinery repairs, servicing, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of machine parts, components, and consumables.
- Record the use of parts and ensure stock records are kept accurate and up to date.
- Identify parts and equipment requirements and report shortages or issues to the Team Leader.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety requirements, manufacturer guidance, and organizational procedures.
- Undertake Mobile Fitter duties as and when required, providing on-site repair and maintenance support.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and operational teams to ensure machinery is available and maintained to the required standard.
- Report significant defects, recurring faults, or repair issues to the Team Leader and provide appropriate technical information where required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment, including appropriate care of tools and workshop equipment.
- Support continuous improvement in maintenance practices and contribute to the efficient operation of the service.

Requirements
Essential
- Level 2 qualification in Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or a relevant equivalent qualification.
- Practical experience of servicing, maintaining, and repairing plant, agricultural machinery, vehicles, mowers, or similar mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanical maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair techniques.
- Ability to identify mechanical faults and undertake appropriate repairs and servicing.
- Ability to use a range of hand tools, workshop equipment, and maintenance tools safely and effectively.
- Full and valid driving license.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements when working with machinery, tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance, repair, and parts records.
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize workload and complete repairs efficiently.
- Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a wider operational team.
- Willingness and ability to undertake Mobile Fitter duties when required.

Desirable
- Experience working with commercial mowers, tractors, tractor attachments, or grounds maintenance machinery.
- Experience working in a workshop, agricultural, plant hire, grounds maintenance, or fleet environment.
- Experience undertaking mobile or on-site mechanical repairs.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, or diagnostic systems associated with plant and agricultural machinery.
- Manufacturer-specific training or additional technical qualifications in plant or agricultural machinery maintenance.
Additional Information
- Hours per Week: 37 hours
- Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am–4:00pm; Friday, 8:00am–3:30pm
- Location: As required by the service, including mobile/on-site duties when required
- Payment: Bi-weekly payments
